[00:00:02]

LET ME WELCOME EVERYBODY HERE TO THE BEXAR COUNTY COMMISSIONER'S COURT COUNTY.
THIS IS MORE CALMLY CALLED THE DOUBLE HEIGHTS COURTROOM, WHICH IS A RECENTLY RENOVATED COURTROOM HERE IN THE BEXAR COUNTY COURTHOUSE.
FOR THOSE THAT DON'T KNOW THE HISTORIC COUNTY COURTHOUSE, THE WHAT WE CALL THE RED BUILDING IS ONE OF THE OLDEST COURTHOUSES IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.
AND OBVIOUSLY EVERYBODY WHO LIVES HERE IN SAN ANTONIO, OR OUR GUEST.
THIS IS THE CENTER OF THE BEAR COUNTY.
THAT CON, AS YOU KNOW, ACROSS THE STREET, IS ONE OF THE OLDEST MISSIONS, SAN FERNANDO CATHEDRAL FERNANDO, AND ONE OF OUR NEIGHBORS IS CITY HALL, AND WHERE CITY GOVERNMENT IS ALSO ACROSS THE STREET FROM US.
AND JUST ONE BLOCK DOWN IS A, THE FEDERAL COURTHOUSE, WHICH THE, IS THE NEWEST BUILDING TO HERE, TO THE CENTER OF SAN ANTONIO.
SO THIS IS IN ESSENCE, THE CENTER OF WHERE THE LEGAL SYSTEM, BOTH CITY, COUNTY, AND FEDERAL DUE THE BUSINESS FOR THE PEOPLE HERE IN BEXAR COUNTY.
I WANT TO THANK MY STAFF MARI THOMAS, ESPECIALLY OUR BEXAR COUNTY OUTREACH MANAGER FOR THE BEAR HERITAGE.
IT IS MY HONOR TO INTRODUCE EVERYBODY HERE TODAY AND TO RECOGNIZE THAT WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A LECTURE IN REGARDS TO MIGUEL HI MEXICO'S INDEPENDENCE AND THE IMPACT ON TEXAS.
I WANT TO GIVE A SPECIAL RECOGNITION TO CONSUL GENERAL FOR HIS LEADERSHIP AS CONSUL GENERAL HERE IN SAN ANTONIO.
MIGUEL, AND I'M SURE HE'S BUSY BECAUSE WE HAVE A DS EVENT THIS EVENING HERE, I BELIEVE, AT MARCUS SQUARE.
AND I UNDERSTAND THAT ALFREDO AVIO FROM UNAM IS ALSO HERE TODAY.
AND I WOULD LIKE TO RECOGNIZE HIM AND GIVE HIM RECOGNITION, A ROUND OF APPLAUSE AND SPECIAL RECOGNITION TO, IN REGARDS TO THE LECTURE HE'S GOING TO GIVE US TODAY.
CAN WE GIVE HIM A ROUND OF APPLAUSE? AND LET ME JUST GIVE RECOGNITION TO IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN THE ROOM.
UH, NOT JUST ME, BUT PEOPLE WHO HELP SUPPORT BEAR COUNTY COUNTY.
AND WE HAVE THE CHAIRPERSON OF BE COUNTY HISTORICAL
[00:05:01]
COMMISSION, BELINDA MORA AND HER VICE VICE CHAIR OF THAT SAME COMMISSION.WE ALSO HAVE SOME SPECIAL GUESTS.
WE HAVE GUESTS FROM THE BRISCOE MUSEUM, WHICH IS A COUPLE BLOCKS DOWN THE STREET, ONE OF THE NEWEST RENOVATIONS AND MUSEUMS OF OUR COMMUNITY.
AND WE HAVE THE LEADERSHIP OF MAINE PLAZA CONSERVATORY, WHICH IS THE PLAZA RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CATHEDRAL AND RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE COURTHOUSE, UH, WHICH HAS BEEN RECENTLY RENOVATED.
AND THEY'RE CONTINUING TO RENOVATE, UH, TO MAKE THE DOWNTOWN AREA A SPECIAL PLACE FOR EVERYONE, INCLUDING THOSE THAT VISIT SAN ANTONIO.
AND WE HAVE SOME REALLY SPECIAL GUESTS.
WE HAVE SOME STUDENTS FROM RANDOLPH INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT ARE VISITING HERE, OUR HERITAGE CENTER ON THE FIRST FLOOR.
AND I BELIEVE MS. MARIE THOMAS HELPED, UH, SPONSOR THAT VISIT TO THE HERITAGE CENTER.
AND I EXPLAINED TO THEM IN MY INTRODUCTION THIS AFTERNOON HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO UNDERSTAND HISTORY AND THE IMPORTANCE OF HISTORY IN ORDER TO KNOW WHERE YOU HAVE TO GO IN THE FUTURE.
SO I INVITE OUR GUESTS TO LISTEN TO OUR LECTURE SO THAT WE UNDERSTAND HOW OUR CONNECTIONS WITH MEXICO ARE TIED TOGETHER AND WHY WE SHOULD ALWAYS RESPECT THAT CONNECTION.
AND WE SHOULD ALWAYS WORK TO MAKE THAT CONNECTION, THAT BOND BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES EVEN STRONGER.
AND LET ALSO REMEMBER THAT WE, ARE WE IN HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH? IS THAT SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH THROUGH OCTOBER 15TH OF THIS YEAR, MS. MAORI? YES, SIR.
SO LET'S TAKE SPECIAL RECOGNITION FOR THE CONTRIBUTIONS THAT THE HISPANIC COMMUNITY, ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT WERE HERE FIRST AND MS. GLOSS.
I THINK THAT WOULD INCLUDE THE CANARY ISLANDERS IF I RECALL MY HISTORY AND HOW IMPORTANT IT IS, UH, TO RECOGNIZE THAT THEY WERE THE FIRST SETTLERS HERE, AND HOW MUCH OF AN IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTION AND HOW MUCH WE NEED TO REMAIN CONNECTED TO THEM.
SO I WISH EVERYONE THE BEST OF LUCK.
I HAVE STILL COUNTY BUSINESS TO ATTEND TO THIS AFTERNOON.
WANNA START THIS? ANTONIO? GOOD AFTERNOON.
MY NAME IS ALFREDO VELOS FROM UNAM SAN ANTONIO, MIGUEL GARCIA.
IT IS A PLEASURE TO PRESENT YOU TODAY WITH THE PRESENCE OF, UM, MIGUEL GARCIA.
HE STUDIED HIS BACHELOR'S AND MASTER'S DEGREE IN HISTORY AT IN MEXICO, WHERE HE'S NOW WORKING TOWARDS GETTING HIS PHD.
ALSO ANTONIO, HE HAS, UM, EDITED SEVERAL, UH, BOOKS.
AND NOW HE'S, UH, THE PRESIDER OF THE EDITORIAL HERE IN SAN ANTONIO.
HE HAS PUBLISHED SEVERAL BOOKS.
[00:10:06]
HIS PUBLICATIONS HAVE REACHED MEXICO, SPAIN, AND THE UNITED STATES.EVEN THOUGH YOU CAN SEE HIM VERY YOUNG, HE'S VERY EXPERIENCED, AND HE'S A, LIKE A VAMPIRE ON THIS
AND THANK YOU FOR COMING TO THIS HISTORICAL CONFERENCE, HITLER.
SO TODAY I WILL BE TALKING VERY ON USUAL HISTORY ABOUT MIGUEL, POSSIBLY SO WE CAN SEE THAT THROUGH THE ARCHIVES IN MEXICO AND THE UNITED STATES, THAT THIS CONNECTION IS VERY POSSIBLE IN SAN ANTONIO.
OKAY, I WILL ALWAYS START WITH AN IMAGE AND EXPERIENCE THAT I HAVE HAD HERE IN SAN ANTONIO BERG.
YESTERDAY I ATTENDED A CITY COUNCIL MEETING WITH THE MAJOR OF THE CITY, RON BERG, ANTONIO.
UM, MIGUEL WAS MENTIONED AS ONE OF THE CHARACTERS THAT ARE, UH, FOUNDERS OF THE HISTORY HERE IN, UH, UH, OF THE INDEPENDENCE OF MEXICO.
SO THIS IS PREDICTABLE BECAUSE MIGUEL IS THE MAIN FIGURE OF THE INDEPENDENCE IN, UM, IN AMERICA, EMBARGO.
ALTHOUGH I ASK YOU, DO YOU KNOW THE STATUE OF MIGUEL THAT IT'S LOCATED HERE IN SAN ANTONIO? RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU HAVE BEEN SEEN IT
I KNOW YOU IS THERE BECAUSE, UH, THERE IS A VERY SPECIAL MOTIVE.
SO TO UNDERSTAND WHY HIS STATUE IS HERE, WE NEED TO UNDERSTAND ABOUT THE HISTORY OF MEXICO CONTRADICT.
AND I SAY THIS BECAUSE HIS FIGURE MIGHT BE VERY CONTRADICTORY, AND IT'S ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT IN, UH, IN THE SHORT HISTORY OF MEXICO.
AND IT, IT IS BECAUSE HE WAS A PRIEST AND HE WAS SUPPOSED TO, UM, SHARE THE, THE PEACE, BUT HE WAS THE INITIATOR OF A REVOLUTION.
HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT A PRIEST, UM, SUPPORTS WAR INSTEAD OF PEACE? AND THAT HAS TO BE WITH THE HISTORY OF MEXICO.
THE HISTORY OF MEXICO IS FULL OF DENIALS.
SO WE HAVE BEEN TAUGHT IN MEXICO THAT DURING FIVE CENTURIES, THE HISTORY HAS BEEN DENIED BY THE, UH, PREVIOUS PAST EL.
SO BY REGAL PASS WAS DENIED BY, UM, C THE NINE 19TH CENTURY.
AND ALL THAT HISTORY WAS DENIED BY THE MODERN HISTORY OF MEXICO
[00:15:02]
CONTRADICTION, HIS.SO IN ORDER TO ADVANCE IN THE HISTORY, WE HAVE TO, UH, PAY ATTENTION TO THESE CONTRADICTORY IN THE HISTORY.
SO IF YOU GO BACK, YOU CAN ATTEST THAT THE CONQUEST OF MEXICO WAS INITIATED BY, UH, INDIGENOUS PEOPLE KNOWN BY THE CONQUERORS.
AND THE INDEPENDENCE OF MEXICO WAS CONSUMMATED BY SPANS, NOT BY INDIGENOUS PEOPLE.
SO AS THIS IS ONE OF THE CONTRADICTIONS, THERE ARE SO MANY MORE IS ONE OF THEM.
SO I WILL ASK YOU AGAIN, HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT A PRIEST ALGO WAS FOR VIOLENCE INSTEAD OF A PEACEFUL WAY? THIS IS AN ACCIDENT IN THE HISTORY BECAUSE WE HAVEN'T UNDERSTAND THE FIGURE OF MIGUEL CALLING MEXICO BECAUSE HE NEVER, UH, SOUGHT THE INDEPENDENCE OF MEXICO.
HE WANTED TO STAY LOYAL TO THE SPANIARD CROWN.
AND THAT HAPPENED BECAUSE HE SUFFERED, AND AN INCIDENT THROUGH THE HISTORY IN LOS, HIS SOMETIMES HISTORICAL FIGURES LOST THEIR HUMAN NATURE, AND ITS TRANSFER INTO A THEATRICAL ASPECT.
SO MANY MEXICANS, WE GROW WITH A, A BRONZE HEROES THAT ARE AWAY FROM OUR REALITIES.
ENC WAS A VERY HUMAN CHARACTER BEFORE THE REVOLUTION FOR THE INDEPENDENCE, HE HAD A VERY CURIOUS, UH, PERSONALITY.
HE HAD A GREAT INTELLECTUAL CAPACITY, EXTRAORDINARY.
AND HE HAD AN EXTRAORDINARY SCHOLARSHIP.
HE WAS VERY CREATIVE AND A DISPOSITION TO HELP OTHERS.
SO AS A PRIEST, HE EXCEEDED HIS, UM, HIS, UH, HIS ROLES BECAUSE HE WAS VERY GALLANT BESIDES, SO HE HAD A, AN OBSESSION FOR MUSIC AND THEATER.
AND AS YOU KNOW, SOME KIND OF THEATER AND MUSIC WERE FORBIDDEN BY THE CHURCH, ESPECIALLY FOR PRIESTS AS YES.
SO THESE CHARACTERS, THIS MADE THAT THE CHURCH WAS, UH, AFTER HIM, AND THAT'S WHY HE WAS BEING SEARCHED, THE PROCESSES.
SO BEFORE 1810, WE HAVE THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF LEGAL PROCEDURES AGAINST HIS BEHAVIOR CONG.
SO THIS WAS NOT SHOWING AN AXI, IT WAS JUST SHOWING HIS, UM, RELATABLE THINGS ABOUT WHAT HE THOUGHT AND WHAT HE DID.
SO BESIDES BEING VERY POPULAR AMONG THE PEOPLE HE'S CORRECT,
[00:20:01]
MADE HIM AND STAND OUT AMONG THE, THE PEOPLE THERE.HIS FIGURE CHANGED STARTING IN 1810, AND HE HAD THREE MAIN PURPOSES, AVOIDING NAPOLEON'S INTERVENTION IN NEW SPAIN, OVERTHROWING THE VICE REGAL GOVERNMENT THAT SYMPATHIZE WITH NAPONA APART AND RETURNING THE S OF NEW SPAIN TO, UM, THE, TO THE KINGDOM OF SPAIN.
BUT HE NEVER LOOKED FOR THE INDEPENDENCE.
THIS MAKES US THINK THAT THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES AND MEXICO ARE QUITE DIFFERENT, BUT WASHINGTON, BUT IN SOME POINTS THEY TOUCH DUE TO CHARACTERS LIKE WASHINGTON AND MIGUEL, BUT, BUT WITH A DIFFERENCE, THE ABSOLUTE CONTRARIES.
SO HISTORIANS IN, UH, DIFFERENT PLACES ARE, UH, ARE ACKNOWLEDGE THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES, AND THIS IS HOW, UM, WE ADMIRE THE, THE POLITICS IN CAM REVOLUTION IS INDEPENDENCIA ABSOLUTE DISASTER.
OTHERWISE, THE REVOLUTION IN OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD WERE A COMPLETE DISASTER.
SO HE NEVER HAD A PLAN TO CONDUCT THE INDEPENDENCE.
SO THAT'S WHY IT WAS A GREAT DISASTER.
SO CONTRARY TO THE, UH, FRENCH REVOLUTION AND THE UNITED STATES REVOLUTION, THE HISTORY IS CONTRARY TO THE HISTORY OF MEXICO.
OF COURSE, MIGUEL AFTERWARDS WANTED THE INDEPENDENCE, BUT IT WAS TOO LATE.
SO HIS INDEPENDENCE, UM, IDEALS WERE NOT ONLY THEN JUST FOR MEXICO, SO THEY EXTENDED TO THE UNITED STATES ALSO.
SO HE WAS THE FIRST AMBASSADOR NAME TO COME TO THE UNITED STATES.
IT WAS AT THE BEGINNING OF 1811, AND IT WAS ALSO A DISASTER WHEN COULDN'T SUSTAIN THE PROCESS OF THE WAR.
HE, UH, THOUGHT ABOUT THE, THE HELP FROM THE UNITED STATES, BUT THIS PART OF THE HISTORY IS LITTLE KNOWN TO MEXICANS BECAUSE THIS AFFECTS THE NATIONALISM SAYING THIS IN MEXICO, IT'S, UH, A CRIME, UHHUH
BUT HIS, UM, UH, WORK AS AN AMBASSADOR WAS REAL, AND IT CONSISTED OF THE FOLLOWING.
HE WAS A PRIEST AND HE WAS THE WORST MIL CHAR.
SO THAT'S WHY HE LOST ALL HIS, UH, ATTEMPTS TO, TO DO WORK.
SO THE CITY THAT HE THOUGHT OF TO OBTAIN THE RESOURCES AND HELP FOR THE WAR WAS SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, ANTONIO.
[00:25:02]
BUT AT THE END OF 1811, UM, HIS MILITARY, UH, TRIALS WERE, UM, HE WAS CAPTURED AND, UM, AND, AND SHOT DEAD KILLED, OKAY? BUT TWO OF HIS FRIENDS COULD ARRIVE TO SAN ANTONIO TO ASK FOR HELP.SO THEY WERE I, BUT THEY WERE ALSO CAPTURED AND SHOT.
SO AS YOU HAVE SEEN, EVERYTHING HAS BEEN A DISASTER, BUT THERE'S STILL HOPE.
AND SO BEFORE BEING CAPTURED AND DETAINED, UM, THEY MET A VERY INTERESTING CHARACTER.
SO THEY MET BERNARDO GUT, WHO IS LITTLE KNOWN OR NOT KNOWN IN MEXICO, ANTONIO.
SO AS WITH MORENO, HE RECEIVED INSTRUCTIONS TO COME TO SAN ANTONIO.
AND THE IMPACT OF THE IDEALS OF MIGUEL ALGO STARTED DEVELOPING, UH, AROUND 1811.
SO, AS YOU KNOW, BERNARDO GUT WAS STARTED OF THE INDEPENDENCE, UM, OF THE UNITED STATES IN TEXAS, BUT SINCE THERE WERE NO PROJECT, NO RESOURCES, NO SOLDIERS, SO THE UNITED STATES WAS THE ONLY, UH, WAY TO OBTAIN SOME HELP WASHINGTON.
SO, UM, IN THE MIDDLE OF 1811, BERNARDO GUT WENT TO WASHINGTON JAMES, AND HE HAD AN INTERVIEW WITH JAMES MONROE, WHICH LATER BECAME PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON.
SO THE SENDOFF, UH, COULD GET CONFERENCE AN APPOINTMENT.
SO HE, HE GOT AN APPOINTMENT WITH JAMES MONROE, IMPLEMENTED JAMES MONROE AND JAMES MONROE ACCEPTED TO HELP, UH, THE NEW SPAIN TO GET THEIR INDEPENDENCE.
BERNARD BERNARD, BESIDES MIGUEL, HE DID HAVE A PLAN.
FIRST CONVERT TEXAS AS A SITE TO START THE INDEPENDENCE HERE, UH, OF MEXICO HERE, STARTING HERE IN TEXAS, AND LATER HAVE INTERVIEWS WITH OTHER AMBASSADORS OF OTHER COUNTRIES TO OBTAIN THEIR HELP.
SO VICE, WHO WAS THE ELDEST BROTHER OF SIMON, WAS ONE OF THE ONES WHO WERE, UH, INVOLVED IN THIS PLAN.
INCREDIBLY, UH, MONROE ACCEPTED TO PROVIDE THE HELP, AND HE PROVIDED 27,000 SOLDIERS AND WEAPONS.
BUT THERE WERE SOME LITTLE CONDITIONS TO INSTATE A REPUBLICAN GOVERNMENT IN TEXAS TO PROCEED WITH THE LIBERATION OF NEW SPAIN FROM SPAIN, AND EVENTUALLY BECOME ANNEX ANNEX TO THE UNITED STATES.
[00:30:08]
UH, BERNARDO GUT HEARD ALL THESE CONDITIONS AND HE DENIED THEM, AND HE NEVER CAME BACK, UH, AFTER THAT CONFERENCE.SO THIS CONFERENCE HAPPENED BY THE END OF 11, 18 11, AND IT WAS, UH, A GREAT STEP IN THE HISTORY OF MEXICO IN, AND I DON'T SAY THAT IT WAS, UH, SAID BY THE AMBASSADOR OF OF SPAIN AT THAT TIME, LUIS SO LEARNED THAT THIS WAS REVEALING THE INTENTIONS OF THE UNITED STATES WITH THE NEW SPAIN.
SO THIS WAS, UM, ATTESTED BY THE VISIT THAT HE DID, UH, TO HUMBOLDT IN 1804.
SO WAS A PROMOTER, UH, OF THE SALE OF FLORIDA IN 1819.
SO THE PROJECTS OF THE UNITED STATES, WE HAVE TO WAIT IN ORDER TO BE ACCOMPLISHED.
SO THIS GIVES ME A POINT TO EXPRESS SOMETHING THAT AS MEXICANS, WE DON'T LIKE A LOT, THE FACILITY IN WHICH THE NORTHERN TERRITORIES WERE LOST LOS, BUT IT SHOWS THAT NEW SPAIN NEVER, UH, MANAGED THE TERRITORIAL IN AN EFFECTIVE WAY.
CALIFORNIA, ACTUALLY, TEXAS, NEW MEXICO AND CALIFORNIAN WERE A PAIN IN THE NECK FOR ALL THE GO, UH, GOVERNMENTS TILL 1836.
SO BASED ON THIS, UH, THERE WERE, THERE'S A MYTH THAT WE WERE TRYING TO KEEP SOMETHING THAT WE NEVER POSSESSED.
I WILL TOUCH THIS POINT LATER.
SO HERE, THE INDEPENDENT REVOLUTION TILL 1813.
SO THE INTERESTING PART OF THE INDEPENDENCE IN TEXAS WERE, UM, BY TWO, UH, INTERESTING, UH, EVENTS.
BETWEEN 1811 AND 1813, THERE WERE TWO THINGS THAT WERE FOUNDED THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW.
THE FIRST ONE WAS THE, UM, STATEMENT OF A MEXICAN, UH, ARMY, INDEPENDENT OF NEW SPAIN, SPAIN, AND THE UNITED STATES FAMILIAR.
THE SECOND ONE WAS A DECLARATION THAT YOU MIGHT FIND VERY FAMILIAR.
WE, THE PEOPLE OF THE PROVINCE OF TEXAS BOW INTO THE SUPREME JUDGE OF THE UNIVERSE, TO RECTITUDE OF OUR INTENTIONS, DECLARED THAT THE V WHICH HELD US ON THE DENOMINATION OF THE EUROPEAN SPAIN, ARE FOREVER DISSOLVED.
THAT WE ARE FREE AND INDEPENDENT, THAT WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO ESTABLISH OUR OWN GOVERNMENT.
AND THAT HENCE FOR OUR LEGITIMATE AUTHORITY SHALL EMANATE FROM THE PEOPLE TO WHOM ALONE.
THIS RIGHT BELONGS THAT HURT, HENCE FOR FOREVER.
AND NEVER, WE ARE ABSOLVE FROM DUTY AND OBLIGATION TO ALL FOREIGN POWER HAS.
[00:35:30]
SO AS YOU CAN SEE, THE FIRST, UH, FLAG FOR TEXAS IS ONE THAT HAS A GREEN COLOR, THAT THE ONES THAT YOU CAN SEE ON THE FLYERS THAT WE HAVE ON THE TABLE, INCREDIBLE.THE INTENTIONS OF, UH, UH, BERNARDO HAD THEIR INTENTION, HE COULD SUSTAIN HIS GOVERNMENT FOR ONE YEAR, BUT AFTERWARDS HE WAS, UH, UH, HE WAS, UH, HE LOST MM-HMM,
HE, HE WAS, UH, NOT REMEMBER ANYMORE BECAUSE HE COULDN'T SUSTAIN THE CONSTITUTIONAL PROJECT AND THE ARMY THAT WAS FIGHTING IN TEXAS.
AT THIS MOMENT, IVO HAS DISAPPEARED FROM THE HISTORY, BUT THIS IS NOT TRUE.
ALTHOUGH THE INDEPENDENCE WAS CONSUMMATED ON 1821, HE CAME BACK AGAIN TO THE HISTORY.
HERE IS WHERE WE COME TO THE MOST INTERESTING ASPECT OF THIS CONFERENCE, BECAUSE DURING THE 19TH CENTURY, IT WAS DISCUSSED WHO WAS THE REAL FATHER OF THE LAND.
MANY THOUGHT THAT MIGUEL WAS THE STARTER, AND MIGUEL, IT WAS THE ONE WHO CONSUMED DURANTE.
THERE WAS A FIGHT, UH, DURING 50 YEARS UNTIL, UH, TRIUMPH.
AND THIS HAPPENED WHEN JUAREZ CONQUERED OVER THE MONARCHY OF, UM, AND THEN THE CHARACTER OF ALGO WAS, UH, VEILED DUE TO THE FOLLOWING, UH, CHARACTERISTICS.
BECAUSE THE MOST IMPORTANT SE SIGNS OF THE, OF, OF THE LAND WERE, UM, CREATED BY THE VILLAINS.
THE FLAG WAS CREATED BY SANTANA.
SANTANA, AND THE CHARACTER OF MIGUEL ALGO BY THREE WERE SYNTHESIZED BY PRIO DIAZ, WHO VISITED, UM, THE STATE OF TEXAS IN 1909, DIAZ, FRANCISCO, LUIS ANTONIO.
SO MADERO WAS THE ONE WHO FOUGHT, UH, PAZ, AND HE STARTED HIS PLAN FROM THE STATE OF TEXAS, MEXICO.
AFTER YEARS AFTER THE WORLD PASSED, UH, PEACE CAME BACK TO THE WORLD.
AND SECOND WORLD WAR IGNITED THE COLLABORATION BETWEEN OUR TWO NATIONS.
HITLER AND HITLER, WHO WAS VERY INTERESTED IN THE WAR IN EUROPE, UH, USED MEXICO AS A DISTRACTION IN MEXICO.
[00:40:08]
AND THERE WAS A NETWORK OF NAZIS IN MEXICO WHO WERE TRYING TO SABOTAGE ALL THE EFFORTS IN THE UNITED STATES IN SAN ANTONIO.ONE OF THOSE OPERATIONS OCCURRED HERE IN SAN ANTONIO, GON A MAN CALLED GONZALO DESTO WITH HIS PARTNER, UM, GU FRANCISCO, SORRY, FRANCISCO GILLARD, LUIS ANDERSON, UH, ESTABLISHED FRIENDSHIP WITH LUIS ANDERSON.
AND, UM, CAN YOU REPEAT THE NAME, PLEASE? PRESTON LUIS ANDERSON.
T OH, PRESTON, UH, LUIS ANDERSON REPRESENTED THE, UH, ER COUNTY BETWEEN 1926 AND 1941 ANDERSON.
AND ALSO HE WAS FRIEND TO MAURICE MA IN THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES.
SO HE WAS VERY IMPORTANT BECAUSE HE WAS IN CHARGE OF FIGHTING NAS IN, UH, IN NORTH AMERICA, MEXICO AND THE NAS WHO WERE INVOLVED IN THE GOVERNMENT OF MEXICO TRY TO, UH, HOST HIM.
GON SO GON WAS THE PERSON WHO WAS THE CONDUCT TO DO THIS.
IGON AND DETO HAD THE IDEA TO, UM, TO GIFT THE SCULPTURE OF MIGUEL DEGO TO MARICK IN SAN ANTONIO.
SO THE STATUE OF MIGUEL ALGO IS A COURTESY OF THE NAS WHO WERE IN MEXICO, WHO STAYED HERE IN SAN ANTONIO.
YEAH, THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT THIS HISTORY, SO THE ONLY GOOD THING IS THAT THE SCULPTURE WAS DONE BY A PUPIL OF, UH, AUGUST RODAN.
SO HE WAS ALSO, UH, INVOLVED IN THE, UH, INDEPENDENCE, UM, IN THE CITY OF MEXICO.
SO IT'S THE OF INDEPENDENCE ARE LINKED.
THAT SCULPTURE IS LOCATED OUTSIDE OF SAN ANTONIO WHERE I WORK.
AND NOW I DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND OF GRID I SHOULD DO WHEN I GO IN FRONT OF IT.
IF YOU HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY, PLEASE VISIT THAT STATUE.
SO THIS SHORT SUMMARY JUST PROVIDES SOME, UH, DATA ABOUT THE HISTORY OF MEXICO AND THE CITY OF, UH, SAN ANTONIO IN TEXAS.
THIS JUST ILLUSTRATE THE FIGURE OF THE HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH THAT IS CELEBRATED IN THE UNITED STATES.
AN IMAGE THAT WE AS MEXICANS DO NOT UNDERSTAND, BUT WE CELEBRATE.
AND EVEN THOUGH THE STATUE OF HAS BEEN, UH, PLACED THERE BY THE NAZIS, AT LEAST IT WILL SERVE TO REMIND US OF THE LINKS BETWEEN MEXICO AND THE UNITED STATES.
[00:45:03]
DO YOU HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME FOR QUESTIONS? ANY ANY QUESTIONS FOR THE SPEAKER? I HAVE A QUESTION.IF I DON'T, IF I MISSED IT, AND IT SAID IN SPANISH, AND I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND IT, BUT DO YOU THINK THAT WAS LEADING THE PEOPLE BECAUSE HE WAS IN OPPOSITION OF WHAT THE SPANISH WERE TRYING TO DO, AND HE WAS TRYING TO HELP SUPPORT PEOPLE? OR YOU THINK HE WAS DOING IT FOR SOME PERSONAL GAIN? AND IF I CAN, I'M SORRY.
UM, THE PROCESS OF HIS IN THIS KIND OF, UH, HISTORICAL PROCESS, NOTHING IS PERSONAL, MUST DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HE WAS DOING.
ACTUALLY, WHEN THE IN INQUISITION, UM, INTERVIEW HIM, HE, HE MENTIONED THAT HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HE WAS DOING.
HE'S THE AUTHOR OF A PHRASE THAT SAYS, THE CHILDREN OF A REVOLUTION.
WE NEVER GET TO SEE THE, THE RESULTS BECAUSE, OH, BECAUSE THE REVOLUTION HAS SATURN DEVOURED THEIR CHILDREN? HORRIBLE.
WHAT YOU ARE CURRENTLY SEEING IN MEXICO.
IT'S THE RESULT OF FIVE CENTURIES OF HISTORY.
DURING FIVE CENTURIES MEXICAN HAVE BEEN, UH, ACCUSTOM TO LIVE UNDER THESE VERTICAL, UH, SYSTEMS. FIRST WITH THE AZTEC EMPERORS, THEN WITH THE KING OF SPAIN, THEN WITH IT EMPEROR, THEN A, UH, WITH A DICTATOR, SANTANA, THEN ANOTHER MARKET MONARCH AS A THEN WITH A CHARACTER AS, AND THEN THE, UH, THE MONARCHY EVERY SIX YEARS WITH THE, UM, REVOLUTIONARY INSTITUTE, UH, PARTY.
THE PRE MM-HMM,
MAYBE THIS SATISFIES, UH, YOUR, YOUR QUESTION.
[00:50:08]
AND SAN ANTONIO CONTROL, UH, OKAY.AND THESE TWO MEN, UH, WERE IGNACIO ALAMA AND SALAZAR, BOTH OF WHOM WERE DENOUNCED, AND, UM, TRIED AND CONDEMNED ALONGSIDE OTHER PEOPLE.
BUT MY QUESTION WAS REGARDING BATISTA DE LAS CA DEAS, WHO WAS A MILITIA CAPTAIN, WHO OVERTHREW THE ROYALIST GOVERNMENT LOCALLY AHEAD OF THEIR ARRIVAL.
SO THAT WAS THE QUESTION I ASKED.
IF WE PUT IT IN PERSPECTIVE, HE COULD, UM, PROVIDE THAT BECAUSE HE, HE WAS COUNTING ON 10 MEN TO DO, TO DO IT, AND HE COULD DEFEAT THE GOVERNMENT IN SAN ANTONIO BECAUSE IT WAS A NOMINAL GOVERNMENT WITH EFFECTIVE FORCE, WITH NO ARMY, WITHOUT MONEY, FAR FROM THE CAPITAL OF THE, UM, EMPEROR.
AND BESIDES, AND THEY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE COWS THAT WAS IN THE NORTH OF THE NEW SPAIN, EVEN THOUGH IT COULDN'T BE CONSIDERED A, IT'S AN INTERESTING PRESIDENT OF THE REVOLUTION OF BERNARDO, CALIFORNIA.
THESE ARE THE ONES THAT HAPPEN IN THE GOVERNMENT OF, UH, NOVA MEXICO AND CALIFORNIA.
MEXICO ARE A LITTLE KNOWN OR NOT KNOWN IN MEXICO FOR A VERY SIMPLE REASON, A TRAUMA IN THE HISTORY OF MEXICO.
MEXICAN MEXICANS WANT, UH, WANT TO FORGET THE LOOSE OF THE TERRITORIES OF THE NORTH.
THAT'S A SHAMEFUL EPISODE FOR THEM.
THE BEST THING THAT THEY CAN DO IS TO FORGET IT.
OTHERWISE, IF IT WERE, UH, STUDIED, WE COULD, UH, OVERCOME THAT TRAUMA AND TALK LIKE MYSELF WITHOUT THAT NATIONALISM, YOU KNOW? THANK YOU.
DID THE, UH, EUROPEAN POWERS AT THE TIME, PARTICULARLY GREAT BRITAIN AND FRANCE, HAVE REASONABLY DETAILED KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT WAS GOING ON IN MEXICO AND, AND WHAT WERE THEIR INTERESTS, AND HOW DID THEY EFFECTUATE THOSE INTERESTS? THEY HAD ALL THE INTERESTS.
SO GREAT BRITAIN WANTED TO SUPPORT THE INDEPENDENCE OF ALL THE HISPANIC AMERICA BECAUSE HE WANTED ACCESS TO THE MARKETS.
HE WANT, HE WANTED TO HAVE, UH, COMMERCE WITH THEM.
THE REST OF THE MONARCHIES ALSO HAD INTERESTS.
FOR INSTANCE, FRANCE NEEDED THE GOLD OF MEXICO TO SUPPORT THEIR WARS.
[00:55:01]
INTEREST OF NAPOLEON FOR, UH, FOR SPAIN, FOR NEW SPAIN.BUT SOME OF THEM ARE THROUGH DIRECTORS NAPOLEON, THAT IN NEW SPAIN, THERE WERE DIRECT, UM, INVOICE FROM, UH, NAPOLEON.
IN FACT, MIGUEL WAS ACCUSED OF WIN AND, AND BY NAPOLEON MONARCH.
SO THE MAIN MONARCHIES INTERESTED IN, IN THIS, UH, WAR WERE GREAT BRITAIN AND FRANCE, AND THE REST WERE OCCUPIED IN RESTORING THE, UM, THE STATUS OF, UH, BEFORE 1789.
QUESTION, IS THERE ANOTHER QUESTION? AND SO MY QUESTION IS, WHAT WAS THE POINT? WHAT WAS THE ITEM THAT CAUSED VAL OR FROM WANTING INDEPENDENCE FROM, EXCUSE ME, NOT WANTING OR SEARCHING FOR INDEPENDENCE, OR WANTING INDEPENDENCE.
THE DISASTER AT THE BE, AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CAMPAIGN, IDA WAS VERY CONFIDENT OF HIS STRENGTH BECAUSE HIS ARMY CONSISTED WITH, UM, WITH A LOT OF PEOPLE AND A LOT OF PEOPLE, THAT'S WHY THEY WON THE FIRST BATTLES.
BUT THERE WAS A MOMENT WHERE HE COULDN'T KEEP CONTROL OF HIS OWN FORCES AND FACING AN, UM, AN ARMY THAT WAS DISCIPLINED AND CONTROLLED.
AND THAT'S WHAT, UH, HAPPENED WITH ALL HIS FAILURES.
THE INFLECTION POINT WAS THE BATTLE OF THE BRIDGE OF CALDRON IN 1811.
FROM THEN HE STARTED GOING AWAY TO THE NORTH.
HIS, UH, PURPOSE WAS TO GET TO SAN ANTONIO, BUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WAY, HE LOST HIS COMMAND.
BECAUSE HE WAS A PRIEST, NOT A MILITARY.
IT IS THE POINT, THE POINT OF INFLECTION.
THAT'S THE POINT OF INFLECTION.
ANOTHER QUESTION,
SO, UM,
UM,
AND THEN LATER WHEN MEXICO BECOMES INDEPENDENT, WE HAVE DISCUSSIONS ABOUT WHAT TYPE OF FEDERALISM IS GOING TO TAKE PLACE.
AND ALL OF THESE FEDERALISTS ARE INVOLVED IN RIA.
SO MY QUESTION IS, IS THERE ANY EVIDENCE OF FREEMASONRY AMONG THE PRIESTS THEMSELVES, OR WERE THEY SIMPLY MEETING IN PRIVATE DISCUSSION GROUPS, SALONS, LIKE DISCUSSING, UM, INTELLECTUAL CURRENTS OF THE TIME PERIOD? OR IS THERE, IS THERE EVIDENCE OF PEOPLE ESTABLISHING, UM, MASONIC TYPE SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS ALL THE WAY BACK, ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE GAMUT OF, OF THIS TIME PERIOD? UM,
[01:00:23]
THIS IS, THIS IS VERY COMPLEX AND WE DON'T HAVE PROOF, WE DON'T HAVE, UH, PROOF THAT THEY WERE, UH, MASONS, BUT WE ARE SURE THAT THEY WERE READING EVERYTHING ABOUT THE FRENCH REVOLUTION.ALTHOUGH THE EXAMPLE OF FRANCE WAS VERY DANGEROUS, THAT EXPLAINS WHY TEXAN COPY THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES.
SO THIS YEAR, WE, UH, CELEBRATE 200 YEARS OF THE CONSTITUTION AND ACTUALLY OUR VERY FIRST CONSTITUTION.
IT'S A VERY STRANGE ADAPTATION OF THE AMERICAN, UH, CONSTITUTION, POLITICS, AND OTHER POLITICAL MODELS.
VERY, UM, UH, ON EXACT UHHUH THAT WOULD EXPLAIN WHY WE HAD SO MANY CONSTITUTIONS DURING THE 19TH CENTURY.
EVERYTHING WAS A FAILURE FROM THE CONSTITUTION OF A OF 1815 TILL THE ONE IN 1917, WHICH WOULD BE A SUCCESS ON THIS BY THE 700 AMENDMENTS THAT IT HAS
IS THERE ANOTHER QUESTION? OH, I'LL SAY THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ALL THE INFORMATION.
I WAS LIKE, I'LL DO THE I TRANSLATING
WE HAVE SOME WATERS AND DESSERTS IF YOU'D LIKE TO ATTEND.
AND IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FURTHER THAT YOU PREFER TO ASK, NOT IN FRONT OF EVERYONE, I GET THAT AS WELL.
SO IF YOU WOULDN'T MIND STAYING JUST A FEW MORE MINUTES SO THEY CAN ASK YOU.
AND I WANNA INTRODUCE YOU ALSO TO DR. DAVID CARLSON.
